Trucks for Sale in Bulgaria: 6x4 Tractor Units for International Transport and Logistics
Looking for reliable tractor units for international work out of Bulgaria? You might run weekly lines from Sofia and Plovdiv into Western Europe, cross at Kapitan Andreevo towards Turkey and the Middle East, pull heavy combinations on the Struma and Hemus corridors, or move project cargo out of Varna and Burgas. In each case, Schaften Automotive is your European partner for trucks, commercial vehicles and complete fleet solutions. From our headquarters in the Netherlands, we supply 6x4 and other tractor units from Mercedes-Benz, MAN, IVECO, Scania and other leading European brands, specified for the routes you actually drive. We arrange everything from A to Z, including delivery to your yard in Bulgaria.
More Than a Supplier: Your Sparring Partner from A to Z
Bulgarian hauliers work in two worlds at once. Westbound, you compete across the European Union on cost per kilometre, driver comfort and uptime, where a modern, fuel-efficient unit with a well-equipped cab is what keeps both your margin and your drivers. Eastbound and south, towards Turkey, the Caucasus and the Middle East, the job changes completely: longer distances between workshops, rougher surfaces, heavier combinations, mountain passes and border waits where a truck idles for hours.
Bulgaria itself adds the mountains. The Balkan range, the Rhodopes and the passes on the routes between Sofia, the Danube and the Black Sea mean climbs and long descents on almost every domestic leg, with snow and ice in winter. A unit specified purely for flat motorway running in Western Europe is not the same unit you want on the Struma valley in February with a full trailer behind it.
That is why we don’t start from a catalogue. We start by understanding your operation: the routes and corridors you run, your trailer weights, whether you pull volume or heavy, how long your drivers stay out, where you service your fleet and what your replacement cycle looks like. Based on that, we advise you on axle configuration, engine rating, gearing, braking, cab and equipment. Once you have decided, we take care of the rest: documentation, registration support and delivery. You have one point of contact for the whole fleet.
Why a 6x4 Tractor Unit
For straightforward Western European line haul, a 4x2 is usually the efficient answer. A 6x4 earns its place when the work is heavier or harder, and that is exactly where a lot of Bulgarian operators make their money.
- Heavy combinations. A third axle raises the permitted gross combination weight and spreads the load, which matters for heavy haulage, bulk, steel, machinery and project cargo.
- Traction on gradients and in winter. Two driven axles pull away loaded on a wet or snowy pass where a 4x2 is already spinning, which on the mountain corridors is the difference between arriving and waiting for conditions to improve.
- Rough and unpaved surfaces. On eastern routes, in quarries, at ports and on industrial sites, a 6x4 with a reinforced chassis takes punishment that a road-biased unit does not.
- Stability and durability. More axle capacity means less stress on the drivetrain and suspension on long, heavy runs, which shows up in your maintenance costs and your residual value.
- Flexibility. A 6x4 can pull a standard semi-trailer today and a low-bed or heavy tipping trailer tomorrow, which is worth a lot to a fleet that takes mixed work.
We also supply 4x2 tractor units where that is the better answer for your lanes. We will tell you honestly which one fits, rather than selling you axles you do not need.
Specified for Your Routes
The right specification depends on where the truck goes. We work through:
- Engine power and torque matched to your real trailer weights and the gradients on your lanes, not to a nominal figure.
- Axle ratios and transmission for a balance between fuel consumption on the motorway and pulling power on a climb.
- Retarder or strong engine brake for long descents on the Balkan and Rhodope passes, and on the routes down to the Aegean and the Black Sea.
- Fuel tank capacity for long legs and for routes where you plan your fuelling by price and by country.
- Cab specification for drivers who stay out for weeks: bunk, climate, parking cooler and heater, storage and sound insulation. On a Bulgarian fleet running international work, the cab is a recruitment tool as much as a workplace.
- Emission class, chosen with access to low emission zones in European cities in mind, and with your customers’ expectations.
- Winter equipment, including suitable tyres, chain provision and cold-start provisions.
- Chassis and fifth wheel matched to the trailers you actually pull, including heavy and low-bed work.
Beyond Tractor Units: The Rest of the Fleet
Many of our customers need more than tractors. Through the same point of contact we can also arrange:
- rigid distribution trucks for domestic and regional work, in the Atego, TGM and Eurocargo class;
- refrigerated vehicles for food, produce and pharmaceutical transport;
- tippers and construction vehicles for quarry, aggregate and site work;
- tankers for fuel, food liquids and chemicals;
- crane trucks, low-loaders and heavy haulage units for project and machinery transport;
- workshop and service vehicles for your own maintenance operation.
Because we deliver everything through one point of contact, you can combine several vehicle types in one order and one planning, which is a great deal simpler than running three or four purchases in parallel.
Mercedes-Benz, MAN, IVECO, Scania & More
Our range covers the leading European commercial vehicle brands:
- Mercedes-Benz: the Actros for line haul and the Arocs where the work is heavier.
- MAN: the TGX for long distance and the TGS for heavy and mixed duty.
- IVECO: the S-Way for road work and the X-Way for mixed on and off road operations.
- Scania: the R and S series, a long-standing favourite for international haulage.
Other brands, including DAF, Renault Trucks and Volvo, are available on request. Bulgaria drives on the right and uses the same European type approval standards as the rest of the Union, so a vehicle from our stock is ready for your market. All of these brands have service networks across Bulgaria and along the corridors you drive. Our stock changes continuously and we also source through our European network, so we can put together a fleet rather than only what happens to be on one yard.
Buying in the Netherlands as a Bulgarian Operator
Because both countries are in the European Union, buying a truck from us is straightforward:
- No customs formalities. The vehicle moves within the single market.
- VAT handled simply. For business buyers with a valid EU VAT number, the sale is normally invoiced as an intra-community supply without Dutch VAT, and you account for VAT in Bulgaria under the reverse charge mechanism.
- Documents ready for registration. You receive the purchase invoice, the original registration documents and the European Certificate of Conformity, which is the basis for registering the vehicle in Bulgaria.
- Delivery by road. The truck is driven on temporary export plates or carried on a truck transporter to your yard.
- A wider market. The Dutch and Western European market is one of the largest sources of well-maintained, high-specification used trucks in Europe, which often means a better specification for the same money than you would find locally.
How We Arrange Your Purchase from A to Z
Step 1: Consultation and Fleet Review
We discuss your lanes, trailer weights, annual mileage, driver setup, replacement cycle and budget. As your sparring partner, we point out where a specification will cost you fuel or uptime, and where you can get more truck for the same money.
Step 2: Selection and Configuration
We select suitable units from our stock or source them through our European network. You receive a clear proposal with full specifications, including emission class, gearbox, axle ratio, retarder, tank capacity and cab equipment, so you can compare properly rather than on headline price.
Step 3: Preparation and Any Modifications
If you need modifications, additional equipment or a specific fifth wheel or chassis setup, we arrange it before delivery through our network of European specialists.
Step 4: Invoicing, Documents and Registration Support
We issue a correct intra-community invoice and supply the complete document set for Bulgarian registration, including the Certificate of Conformity and the original registration papers. We can advise on the registration process so there are no delays once the truck arrives.
Step 5: Delivery to Bulgaria
We arrange road transport to your yard, driven or on a transporter, depending on your preference and the number of units. For a larger fleet we phase deliveries so you are not taking on more vehicles at once than you can put to work.
Ready to Renew or Expand Your Fleet?
Whether you need one tractor unit or a batch for the next season, Schaften Automotive is ready to help. Tell us which lanes you run and what you pull, and our specialists will advise you personally and prepare a clear proposal including delivery to your yard, with no obligation.

Frequently Asked Questions About Trucks for Sale in Bulgaria
-
Which tractor units can I buy through Schaften Automotive?
We supply tractor units from Mercedes-Benz, MAN, IVECO, Scania and other leading European brands, in 6x4 and 4x2 configurations. That includes the Actros and Arocs, the MAN TGX and TGS, the Scania R and S series and the IVECO S-Way and X-Way. Our stock changes continuously and we source through our European network, so if a specification is not on our yard we can usually find it. We advise you on the configuration that fits your lanes and your trailer weights best.
-
Do I actually need a 6x4, or is a 4x2 enough?
It depends on your work. For straightforward line haul in Western Europe, a 4x2 is usually more efficient and cheaper to run. A 6x4 pays for itself when you pull heavy combinations, when you work on gradients and in winter conditions, when your routes include rough or unpaved surfaces, or when you want the flexibility to take heavy and low-bed work alongside standard trailers. We go through your actual loads and lanes with you and give you a straight answer, including when a 4x2 is the better buy.
-
How does VAT work when I buy a truck in the Netherlands?
For a business buyer with a valid EU VAT number, the sale is normally treated as an intra-community supply. That means we invoice without Dutch VAT and you account for VAT in Bulgaria under the reverse charge mechanism. Two conditions apply: your VAT number must be valid and verifiable, and the transport of the vehicle to Bulgaria must be demonstrable. We handle the documentation for this as part of the sale.
-
Which documents do I need to register the truck in Bulgaria?
You will normally need the purchase invoice, the original Dutch registration documents and the European Certificate of Conformity, which confirms that the vehicle meets European type approval requirements. Registration then runs through the Bulgarian authorities, including a technical inspection where required. Because both countries are in the European Union, there is no customs clearance and no import duty. We supply the complete document set and can advise on the process.
-
Can Schaften Automotive supply several trucks at once?
Yes. We regularly supply batches to transport companies renewing or expanding their fleets. We can put together a consistent set of units with the same specification, which simplifies your maintenance, driver training and parts stock, or a mixed fleet if your work demands it. We phase delivery so you can put the vehicles to work as they arrive, and we stay available for additions, replacements and your next replacement cycle.
